Artist Spotlight: Lorrie Whittington from Illusio Creative

Today’s featured artist is Lorrie Whittington, who is a visual artist and designer who works from Chichester in the UK.  Her company is called Illusio Creative and she specialises in painting, illustration and web design.  Lorrie’s artistic influences include the Renaissance, Baroque and Romantic and she is also deeply influenced by the iconography and art of the Celtic La Tene period.

I have admired her work for quite a while now and I especially love her detailed ink illustrations.  I’m also quite sure that it was through Lorrie that I first heard about some of my current favourite art supplies i.e. Khadi Paper and Sakura Micron Pens!  Here are a few of my favourites pieces from her collection below:

‘Falling Leaves’ Ink & Prismacolour Markers on Paper © Lorrie Whittington 2009

I love the autumn colours in this illustration and the whole movement of the piece.  The shading is lovely, don’t you think?  It makes the leaves look curved and shiny.

‘Tribal’ © Lorrie Whittington 2009.  Ink and Prismacolour Markers on Paper

The colours and patterns in this piece remind me of gorgeous African printed fabric which apparently is very much in fashion right now.

‘Curling Wave’ Ink on Acrylic paper. © Lorrie Whittington 2011

This has to be one of my utmost favourite illustrations of Lorrie’s.  Look at all of that detail!  I love the curves, the curls and the shading!

I imagine that it takes a lot of patience and attention to detail to produce work like this but I also imagine that it can be quite meditative work as well.

Lorrie’s website has much more art and even gorgeous photography for you to look at so please check it out.  Oh and she posted on her Facebook page that she has lots of new work to show us soon, so go on over and become a fan of her page to keep updated.
