One Thing That Is Making Me Smile Right Now

One of the things that is making me smile right now is quite a simple thing.  It’s just a tiny pot of flowers that my mum bought for me when she was last staying with us.  Despite watering it regularly, it seems a little bit like it’s struggling to stay alive, but I smile when I see it because this little bunch are clearly fighters.  I’ve had to remove several dead petals and leaves and sometimes I worry that it won’t make it, but it’s holding on and I admire that:

Quick Sketch of an African American Woman

Here is a quick sketch I did on a scrap paper the other day whilst tidying up my desk.  I always marvel at how the urge to sketch and draw just hits me at odd times and I never quite know how it’s going to turn out. I just accept the feeling and go with it.

I guess that’s the beauty of sketching – it doesn’t matter how it turns out.  I see sketching as a great tool for getting ideas down on paper and playing and practising and trying new things.

I wonder what she’s thinking?  I wonder if I’ll turn her into a painting one day?
