So I’ve finally finished the handmade bookmark for my son. Yay! He was really pleased with it and is already enjoying using it.
Here’s what it looks like now that it’s finished:
I suggested that he choose his own ribbon and he chose one that had ‘with love’ printed on it I decided to laminate it in the hopes that it would last a bit longer and not get bent and broken too quickly but my son assures me that he knows how much work I put into it and that he will look after it. I won’t hold it against him if he can’t though as it will give me an excuse to make another one for him!

My 8 year old son has recently started reading a lot of books which makes me very happy since it’s something else he can do in his leisure time other than play his Nintendo DS. I was really beginning to worry that he would have no other interests, but he’s grown up watching me read all the time and I’m glad that this past-time has finally rubbed off on him. He currently loves the Horrid Henry books and he’s just finished the whole 1st series of Beast Quest which he got for Christmas. I’m really proud of him and I make sure to tell him so.
So with all this reading, he made a special request for me to please make him one of my handmade bookmarks. I was delighted that he asked! He was very specific about what he wanted on it: a picture of himself kicking a football in the air.
After seeing the first draft, he requested a tree in the background, so here’s what it looks like so far:
He’s given this version a nod of approval so I’m allowed to continue
Here’s another one that I’m working on at the same time and I must say that I really love it.
I think I love it because of her expression, the shape of her face, her hair and everything! I can’t wait to see what it looks like when I’ve finished it.
I really hope my son likes his when I’ve finished it as well and I’ll make sure to post another pic when I’m done with his verdict.
